Fazenda Progresso is a picturesque farm in Bahia's Chapada Diamantina mountain range, near Mucugê. Situated at 1,150m above sea level and surrounded by the Chapada Diamantina National Park, the farm benefits from the area's high elevation and unique climate. The hot days and cool nights, with an average temperature variation of just 10°C, create ideal conditions for slow coffee cherry maturation, resulting in a sweet and complex cup.
Owned by the Borré family for three generations, Fazenda Progresso's history dates back to 1984 when they migrated from Southern Brazil to Ibicoara, near Mucugê. Initially, they focused on crops like soybeans, wheat, and potatoes, with the latter proving highly successful, making them one of Bahia's largest potato producers.
In 2005, seeking to diversify, the family recognized the potential for specialty coffee production on their land. Fabiano Borré, the youngest son, led this initiative, investing in top-notch infrastructure and agricultural practices. He assembled a skilled team and sought advice from experts like Silvio Leite, co-founder of the Cup of Excellence.
Today, 530 hectares of Fazenda Progresso are dedicated to coffee, with each plot processed separately using the farm's meticulously designed infrastructure. Fabiano's commitment to quality is evident in their robust quality control program and dedicated lab, led by Ednaldo Nascimento, who has been with Progresso since 2010. Their hard work paid off when they placed 15th in the 2015 Cup of Excellence and 20th in 2017.
The Borré family’s motto, "Mindful Coffee," reflects their dedication to excellence, innovation, and social and environmental responsibility. They prioritize their employees' well-being by providing transportation, clean facilities, insurance, protective gear, and regular health check-ups. Additionally, they support a local school, contribute to tourism in Mucugê, and work with the state government to promote the region's agricultural excellence.
